History of the Home Chez Ellie-Marie is a two story Craftsman's double that was built around 1915. It is a beautiful, old house that has 19th century ambiance and history coupled with many modern comforts and service. We are located in scenic Carrollton, an uptown area of New Orleans. Carrollton's history dates back to the early 1700's. The neighborhood occupies an area originally acquired in 1719 by Jean-Baptiste Le Moyne de Bienville, the founder of New Orleans. It was once a separate town and was annexed to New Orleans in 1874. This community was named for General William Carroll who commanded a portion of General Andrew Jackson's army in 1814. It is home to many architectural styles. As you walk through the area, you will see a mixture of antebellum homes, charming bungalows, renovated cottages and doubles. There is a diversity of restaurants, businesses, churches and coffee shops. These styles all exist serenely side by side throughout the neighborhood. |
